Official Vatican Museum medal issued in 1994 commemorating the art of the Vatican Museums. This medal is .925 silver, 40mm across, weighing 24 grams. Beautiful matte uncirculated condition. However, I have it gold plated.
This medal of the Vatican was minted in 1994 and is the third in the series. It closes the trilogy inspired by the frescoes in the Sistine Chapel.
In 1535 Michelangelo was commissioned by Pope Clement VII to paint the Last Judgement on the altar wall of the Sistine Chapel.
In the "straight" is depicted the detail of a central scene taken from "Il Giudizio Universale". Michelangelo represents the time immediately preceding the sentence of God, with Christ the Judge in the act of rising from his throne of clouds, his arms raised as if to soothe the fury surrounding.
Next to him there is the Virgin. The bottom of the coin reports the inscription: "Michelangelo".
